47 years on the water
David Blackett has been fly fishing for 47 years. Today he guides private, full-day walk-and-wade trips on secluded water, a mountain stream and an alpine lake, through Wasatch Fly Fisher.
His trips are built around teaching. David walks newer anglers through river hydrology, entomology, reading the water, rig setup and fly choice, so they leave as more self-sufficient anglers instead of just being put on fish. Every client gets their own guide.
He also ties his own flies, and sells them through Wasatch Flies on Etsy: simple, durable, deadly effective patterns proven in Utah and Wyoming, including The Real McCoy, David’s signature fly.

What I really found different about hiring David is that he is not your typical guide who just takes you out and tells you when and where to cast. He walks you through the setup of the rig and fly choice as well as reading the water, teaching you every step of the way.
