Trips and rates

How much is a guided trip?

$575 for one angler and $850 for two. Every client gets their own guide for the whole day.

Do you offer half-day trips?

No. Every trip is a full day. The water is about 2.5 hours from the Wasatch Front, so a full day gives you real time to fish and learn.

Where do we fish?

Walk-and-wade on secluded water: a mountain stream and an alpine lake.

Can couples book together?

Yes. The Couples Trip is $850 for two, with a male guide for him and a female guide for her.

I’ve never fly fished. Is that OK?

Yes. Beginners are welcome. Every trip is hands-on teaching: reading the water, rig setup and fly choice, plus a little hydrology and entomology. Experienced anglers get just as much out of it.

When is the season?

April–June and September–October, Monday through Saturday. No Sundays. We close July and August because summer heat stresses the fish.

What’s included

What’s included in the trip?

Your own guide all day, the flies, a streamside lunch, and snacks and drinks all day. Scott Centric rods are available if you don’t have your own.

Who ties the flies?

David ties every fly you’ll fish, including The Real McCoy, David’s signature fly. You can also buy his flies through Wasatch Flies.

What’s for lunch?

A Philadelphia Steak Sandwich, cooked streamside by David in a cast iron pan or Dutch oven. Let David know about any dietary needs when you book.

What isn’t included?

Your Utah fishing license and gratuity for your guide.

Do I need a fishing license?

Yes. Every angler 12 and older needs a Utah fishing license. Short-term 3- and 7-day licenses are available online and only take a few minutes. Get your Utah fishing license

What should I bring?

Polarized sunglasses, bug spray, sun protection, layers with a rain jacket, and your license. See the full What to Bring list.

Who is the guide?

David Blackett is a Licensed Guide, first aid and CPR certified, and has fly fished Utah waters for 47 years. More about David.

Booking and policies

How do I book?

Pick a date on the booking calendar and send your request. David confirms by phone or email. Nothing is charged online.

How does the deposit work?

A 30% deposit holds your date. David sends the deposit details when he confirms your trip, and the balance is due on the day.

Cancel 14 or more days ahead for a full refund of your deposit. Inside 14 days, your date can be moved once, but the deposit isn’t refundable.

What about bad weather?

Trips run rain or shine. If David calls off a trip for unsafe conditions, you get a new date or a full refund.
